INSPECTIONS
Fire Inspections are essential to keeping your business and our community safe. South Davis Metro Fire uses the IFC 2021 Fire Code as a standard to check the safety of businesses. These standards ensure all local businesses are in compliance with fire safety regulations. ALL new commercial business license applications are required to have a "passed" fire clearance by South Davis Metro Fire. Although you may only lease a small office, that office is still part of the building. As such, the entire building must be in compliance as well. The clearance letter can then be submitted to the city for a business license. Annual fire inspections are based on a low (3 yr.), medium (2 yr.), or high (annual) level.
The following is just an overview of items that should be addressed prior to your inspection:
-
Business must be set-up/ready to operate prior to inspection
-
Address visible from the street
-
All exits need to be free of storage, easily accessible and exit signs need to be illuminated and visible
-
Electrical panel is accessible, labeled and no missing panel tabs
-
Proper storage of oily rags, paint and other hazardous materials
-
NO storage within 36" of water heaters and furnaces
-
Proper fire extinguisher: 2A 10BC minimum for office spaces or retail. Industrial and warehouse areas will need other as applicable. Extinguishers should be inspected/tagged annually. (We do not provide this service)
-
Fire Sprinkler Systems (inspected and tagged annually, where applicable)
-
Fire Alarm Systems (inspected and tagged annually, where applicable)
